Start my fit check on how sponsors workShort answer: In most brokerages, your income stops when you stop closing deals. Agents plan exits in a few ways: selling or handing off their database and referral relationships, building a team someone else can run, or referral fees. At eXp, its knowledge base says vested agents may keep receiving revenue share after they stop. Confirm the current rules with eXp.
Most agents never plan this part. Then one day they're 62 and their whole business lives in their phone.
Here are the common paths. Refer clients to an agent you trust and take referral fees where your license and broker allow. Hand your database to a successor. Build a team that keeps going.
At eXp there's one more piece. eXp's revenue share knowledge base says: "Vested Agents in the Revenue Share Plan may continue to receive benefits payable thereunder after Agent terminates his or her ICA or discontinues actively engaging in licensed real estate activities."
Vesting has its own requirements. What happens for heirs is a question to ask eXp directly. I'm not going to repeat third-party summaries as fact.
None of this is guaranteed. Most agents earn little or no revenue share.
Income disclaimer: revenue share and equity are performance based and not guaranteed. Most agents earn limited or no revenue share or equity. See eXp's official costs and income disclosure (exprealty.com/income).
